Locations in the NCZ Portal represent the individual physical sites, offices, or premises that contribute to your organisation’s carbon footprint. Every piece of emissions data you collect — from energy use to travel — is attributed to a location, which means keeping your location list accurate is essential for producing reliable, site-level carbon reports.

What is a location?

A location is any physical place where your business operates. This can be a head office, a warehouse, a retail unit, or any other premises where emissions are generated. Each location has:
  • Name — a label you choose to identify the site
  • Country — the country where the site is based, which determines the emissions factors applied
  • Currency — the currency used at that site for spend-based calculations
  • Logo — an optional image that identifies the location in reports (useful for multi-site organisations)
  • Primary flag — one location in your account is designated as the primary site
The country you assign to a location is used to select the correct grid emissions factors for electricity consumption, so it is important to set this accurately.

Viewing your locations

Navigate to Locations in the left-hand sidebar to see all locations registered under your account. The list shows the location name, country, and currency for each site. Select any location to view its full details.

Adding a new location

Open the Locations page

Select Locations from the navigation menu to open the locations list.

Select Add location

Click the Add location button in the top-right corner of the page. A form opens.

Enter the location details

Fill in the required fields:
  • Location name — a descriptive name for the site
  • Country — the country where the site is based
  • Currency — the currency for this location
Optionally, upload a logo image to represent this location.

Save the location

Click Save. The new location appears in your locations list and is immediately available to use in certifications and form submissions.
You cannot delete a location that has active form submissions or certifications attached to it. Remove any dependent data first, or contact your NCZ Customer Success Team for assistance.

Editing an existing location

Open the location

From the Locations list, select the location you want to update.

Edit the details

Modify any of the location fields — name, country, currency, or logo. All fields are editable.

Save your changes

Click Save to apply the updates. The changes take effect immediately.
You can upload a logo image for each location. The logo appears in location-specific reports and helps identify individual sites at a glance in multi-location views. To upload or replace a logo, open the location detail view and use the logo upload control. Supported image formats include common web image types. The image is stored securely and served from the NCZ platform.

How locations feed into your carbon calculations

Every data collection form submission in the portal is linked to a specific location. When you submit emissions data — such as energy invoices, vehicle mileage, or waste records — that data is tied to the location you select at submission time. This structure allows the platform to:
  • Calculate a location-level carbon footprint for each site individually
  • Aggregate location data into your organisational total for certification reporting
  • Apply the correct country-specific emissions factors based on where each location operates
  • Break down your carbon report by site so you can identify high-emission locations and prioritise reductions
If your organisation has sites in different countries, make sure each location has the correct country assigned. Electricity grid emissions factors vary significantly between countries and affect the accuracy of your Scope 2 calculations.

Location-level emissions reporting

Your NCZ carbon report breaks down emissions by location when you have multiple sites registered. This gives you visibility into which sites contribute most to your overall footprint, enabling targeted reduction planning at the site level rather than just the organisational level. For Platinum-certified organisations, accurate location data also feeds into the supply chain compliance programme, helping demonstrate a complete picture of organisational emissions.
